Y-bearings in the YHB 2 and YHC 2 series with a hexagonal bore and in the YQC 2 series with a square bore are intended primarily for use in applications, where high torques have to be transmitted. The bore is produced to a plus tolerance and allows easy mounting and dismounting. These bearings are axially located on the shaft using adjacent components. The standard outer ring, which has a convex sphered outer surface and no lubrication holes, is identified by the suffix W. Upset forging increases the diameter of the workpiece by compressing its length. Based on number of pieces produced this is the most widely used forging process. A few examples of common parts produced using the upset forging process are engine valves, couplings, bolts, screws, and other fasteners. The purpose of a ball bearing is to reduce rotational friction and support radial and axial loads. It achieves this by using at least two races to contain the balls and transmit the loads through the balls. In most applications, one race is stationary and the other is attached to the rotating assembly (e.g., a hub or shaft). As one of the bearing races rotates it causes the balls to rotate as well. Because the balls are rolling they have a much lower coefficient of friction than if two flat surfaces were sliding against each other. Ball bearings tend to have lower load capacity for their size than other kinds of rolling-element bearings due to the smaller contact area between the balls and races.
